Call for entries to the Tile of Spain Awards 2023
Promotion: Tile of Spain has launched its annual competition calling for designers and architects to submit their work to its 2023 awards, which spotlights international projects that use Spanish ceramics.
The Tile of Spain Awards is a prestigious annual competition that aims to promote the "innovative use of ceramic tiles manufactured in Spain" and is now in its 22nd year.
The awards are divided into three categories: architecture, interior design and a final degree project by a student or graduate.
The total prize fund is €35,000, which will be shared between the three category winners.
The architecture and interior design category winners will both be awarded €15,000 each, while the final degree project winner will receive €5,000.
Last year a social housing complex informed by traditional Ibiza farmhouses named Social Housing in Ibiza by architecture studio Ripoll-Tizón won the architecture prize.
The interior design award was won by design studio All Around Lab, which developed Ávila – a warehouse in Barcelona redeveloped into a multifunctional space.
This year's judging panel will be chaired by architect and founder of Estudio Carme Pinós, Carme Pinós. The panel also includes founder of Studio Inma Bermúdez, Inma Bermúdez; co-founder of COR Asociados Arquitectos, Jesús Olivares; director of DiarioDesign, Gracia Cardona; and director of the College of Architects of Castellón, Susana Babiloni.
The judging will take place in November and winners and special mentions will be announced in December. The awards will be presented in a ceremony at the Cevisama Tile Fair in Valencia in February 2024.
Entries are open now and will close on 18 October 2023.
Submissions are welcomed from anywhere in the world – the only requirement is that the projects include Spanish ceramic tiles.
Tile of Spain represents more than 120 tile manufacturers. Since 2004, the organisation has supported several ceramic study programmes at leading architecture schools.
"Renowned worldwide for an inspiring blend of aesthetic and technical innovation, Spanish tiles draw on a rich heritage of skill and artistry while remaining at the cutting edge of design and performance," said the secretary general of ASCER, the Spanish tile manufacturer's association.
"The standard of entries to the Awards from around the world over many years has been excellent, it's so inspiring to see all the creative and innovative ways architects and designers are using Spanish ceramics."
