Dezeen Showroom: developed by Italian furniture brand Porro, Linea is a collection of colourful storage units based on rediscovered designs by the late postmodernist Alessandro Mendini.
Characterised by striking cellulose acetate surfaces bearing inlays in primary colours, the Linea collection is made up of three pieces – two sideboard cupboard units and a writing desk.
The pieces were designed by architect and designer Mendini several years ago but are now being manufactured by Porro for the first time.
The pieces are being released in a limited series, with only 50 of each piece set to be produced.
"We identified in the Alessandro Mendini archive some drawings that had a very advanced level of design," said Mendini's daughters, Fulvia and Elisa Mendini.
"These pieces of furniture are really very faithful to the original design, we are really happy for this collaboration."
"With the chromatic exuberance typical of Alessandro Mendini's design, Linea perfectly expresses all the ingredients of a Porro object: geometric purity, accurate workmanship and technological details," said Porro head of marketing and communication, Maria Porro.
One cupboard has an open-faced module and a drawer, while the other has two hinged doors. The writing desk has a drop-leaf with an internal partition, and is raised on two dark legs.
Bold, bright colours are given added richness by the application throughout the collection of chiaroscuro – strong contrasts between light and dark.
