Promotion: Italian door designer Lualdi has opened a flagship London showroom, which aims to promote its international reach.
The London store was unveiled as part of London Design Festival and was created by Italian designer and architect Piero Lissoni to showcase the brand's collection of internal doors as part of a series of spaces designed to act as a physical catalogue.
Marking a step forward in the company's expansion to the United Kingdom, the showroom is part of a string of Lualdi stores internationally.
Located in Fitzrovia, the showroom features a network of uniquely designed spaces connected by Lualdi's modern doors, which range from deeply toned swinging doors to dynamic sliding systems.
"The London showroom aligns with the showcase concept we are gradually developing with Lualdi globally," said architect Piero Lissoni. "It's like a physical catalogue, illustrated by a labyrinthine succession of spaces, doors leading you to other rooms. These doors are the gateway to a small world."
"We thought of the new showroom as an international showcase for the company's products and philosophy," Lualdi CEO Pierluigi Lualdi told Dezeen. "It is more than simply a space, it is a journey and a meeting place, offering solutions combining research, technology, craftsmanship, and customisation."
Throughout the showroom, a series of interconnected rooms have been designed to highlight the contemporary character of the company's designs, which range from fixed interior doors to bespoke, flexible designs.
Completed with modern furnishings, the rooms are joined by a range of door systems, including Lualdi's Shoin sliding door, which includes fluted glass panels set within an aluminium frame.
Informed by traditional Japanese architecture and sliding surfaces, the system is available with a range of finishes, including regular glass panels and fluted glass.
Similarly based around a wooden grid, Lualdi's Skye sliding door also features in the showroom and comes in either a wooden or glass finish.
In addition to its sliding systems, Lualdi presents a range of swinging doors throughout the spaces, including its traditional Filo55 model and the panelled Avenue door.
At one end of the showroom, a wall of semi-transparent glass panels set within a wooden frame leads to a compact room featuring a wall punctuated with four swinging Altaj doors.
Displayed with different finishes, including a dark-brown finish and a minimalistic white colour, the Altaj doors are slightly projected in front of the wall within a metal border.
"The showroom’s design concept reflects the company's philosophy based on production flexibility, which is at Lualdi’s core,” said the studio. "Lualdi has also experimented with finishes, styles, and combinations, highlighting the product’s ability to influence and define a space."
Other models forming part of the lineup include the swinging Rasomuro door and the sliding L7 and Koan doors.
Following its launch on 21 September as part of London Design Festival, the Fitzrovia store is welcoming architects and designers to explore Lualdi’s lineup of contemporary doors.
