Dezeen Showroom: Danish design brand Karakter has rereleased a dining and lounge chair created in the 1960s by design duo Afra and Tobia Scarpa.
The 925 Scarpa lounge chair and 121 Scarpa dining chair share a characteristic keyhole-shaped cutout in their backrests, double trestle frames and rounded joinery.
The 121 dining chair was informed by a sketch made by architect and designer Carlo Scarpa, and was brought into production alongside the 925 lounge variation.
The lounge chair has a lower, wider form with a generous seat, whereas the dining chair has a narrower and more upright composition – in both seats, a sturdy wooden frame contrasts the soft and supple leather upholstery of the seat and back.
Both chair types are available with frames made from a range of different species of solid wood, including ash.
The seats are finished in fine European leather in a selection of colours including black, red, brown and cognac.
