Wave II pendant lighting collection by Curiousa
Dezeen Showroom: British lighting brand Curiousa has released its inventive Wave II collection – a sequel to its earlier series of pendant lights combining glass elements in different shapes and colours.
The Wave II collection features candy-coloured, hand-formed glass elements – some of which are sandblasted, giving them a semi-opaque finish – that are stacked like beads along cords to create interesting compositions.
Elements made of wood or silk add to the textural richness of the designs, while the tubular light source is variously framed, softened or obscured by the surrounding diffusers.
The Wave II collection encompasses seven different designs, including two new sculptural styles – the Lonzenge Squircle and Lozenge Wave – while the horizontal Ripple Beam and vertical Crest lights from the earlier series have been updated.
The Crest Tassel pendant ends in a tassel detail, created by London-based textile artist Jessica Light and inspired by traditional Asian lanterns, while in other designs a wooden disc in walnut or white finish adds a contrasting formal element.
The Wave II collection was designed by Curiousa's founder, Esther Patterson, and is made in the brand's studio in Derbyshire, UK, entirely by hand.
"It's important the pieces feel alive and even tactile," said Patterson. "Even though I've designed a certain uniformity – they needed to feel instinctive, sculptural, and free of constraint."
