Dezeen has teamed up with The World Around to livestream its annual summit, featuring talks centred on "the intersection of architecture with ecological and social justice". Watch it live here from 1pm New York time.
Now in its fifth year, the World Around summit speakers will include MAD Architects founder Ma Yansong, MASS Design Group landscape designer Joe Christa Giraso, Lucas Museum of Narrative Art director Sandra Jackson-Dumont, and many more.
The event, which will take place at the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York, is billed as a window into the "now, near and next of architecture".
The World Around founder and executive director, Beatrice Galilee, has curated the event and, in keeping with the organisation's mission to make architecture accessible to all, has partnered with Dezeen to enable the sold-out summit to reach a broad audience via a free live stream.
"At its heart, The World Around seeks to answer the question: 'Why does architecture matter?'", said Galilee.
"By examining the built projects of extraordinary global practitioners who share a common goal and belief: that their work can improve society," she added.
"By sharing, amplifying and championing this work, we hope to inspire more people to learn from and react to the depth and range of architecture and design today."
In previous years, The World Around Summits have been characterised by short insightful presentations and a programme featuring an international mix of leading thinkers on design, architecture and culture – all addressing the most critical issues of our time.
This year's summit will be structured into three themes: "an examined world", "a fluid territory", and "a planetary landscape".
Speakers will highlight notable projects across the world, either recently completed or under construction, as well as groundbreaking research, ideas and innovation. Subjects this year include landscape and urbanism, material innovation, synthetic spaces, housing, museums and community.
Among the speakers is Paris-based curator and director of curatorial affairs at Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain Béatrice Grenier. Her work researches the impact of innovative landscape architecture projects across the world.
Giraso from MASS Design Group is working to promote social and environmental justice. Her work advocates "a deeper approach to sustainability rooted in place, community and care" and has led to ongoing projects in Rwanda.
Also featured is Mae-ling Lokko, an architectural scientist, designer and educator from Ghana and the Philippines who works with agro-waste and renewable bio-based materials.
Ma, whose studio MAD is currently working on the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art – which is under construction in Los Angeles – will also speak at the summit.
The livestream will also feature Alexis Sablone, a designer, artist and skateboarder who competed at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Sablone has been making skateable public art across Europe and the USA to invite urban communities to play in their cities.
Landscape architect Nguyễn Hà, founder of studio ARB Vietnam, will talk about its work on the Dao Mau Museum and Temple on the outskirts of Hanoi, Vietnam.
Watch the livestream at the top of this article from 1pm New York time and 6pm London time.
