MAWD unveils furniture collection made from "sustainably sourced" materials at NYCxDesign

March and White Design's inaugural furniture collection features in this video produced by Dezeen for the brand.

March and White Design (MAWD) debuted a made-to-order three-piece collection, titled MAWDmade, during NYCxDesign week in an exhibition called Designing Tomorrow.

A bouclé dining chair is part of the collection

The range includes a curled bouclé dining chair made with a mix of Angora wool, regenerated cellulose and cotton, and a lounge chair wrapped in leather dyed with Mediterranean olive leaves.

The collection also includes a veined marble-topped side table created using over 98 percent recycled marble, formed of the 'crumbs' that naturally occur when extracting stone and marble.

The made-to-order collection is intended to reduce waste.

According to the brand, each material used for the products has been sustainably sourced, and is certified with environmental NGO International Living Future Institute's Declare Label.

The certification is given to products that avoid the use of harmful chemicals such as carcinogens as well as ozone-depleting substances.

Ninety per cent of the materials used in the collection can be recycled at the end of the product's life, the brand said.

The collection was designed by MAWD founders Elliot March and James White, and was unveiled at an event held by the brand at the Sugarlift Gallery in Chelsea, New York.

The furniture pieces were exhibited alongside works by three artists represented by the gallery, which were chosen to compliment the collection.

Designing Tomorrow ran from 13 May to 24 May at this year's NYCxDesign. See our NYCxDesign 2024 guide on Dezeen Events Guide for information about the many other exhibitions, installations and talks that took place throughout the week.
