Modular shelving specialist String Furniture has launched Center Center, a flexible storage system based on the pegboard-style furniture that Stockholm-based Form Us With Love developed for its own studio.
Launching during 3 Days of Design, the Center Center furniture is made from perforated steel panels that allow modules to be combined in different ways or personalised with accessories.
Form Us With Love originally developed the design in 2022 to meet the need for flexibility in its Stockholm workspace, which doubles as an exhibition gallery and events venue.
String saw an opportunity to turn the design into a product range that responds to the growing need for adaptability in homes and workplaces in the post-Covid era.
The Form Us With Love team, led by founding designers John Löfgren and Jonas Pettersson, worked with the brand to create a catalogue of different components.
Boxes of various sizes and proportions are accompanied by doors, shelves, trays, hooks and handles, allowing for endless configurations.
Components can be connected either horizontally or vertically, in whatever position, with simple screw fixings that slot through the holes.
"Static storage is a notion of the past," said Löfgren.
"Center Center challenges this idea by offering a solution that evolves with the user's needs, both now and into the future," he continued.
"Specifiers have the freedom to customise spaces and create configurations that suit their needs and preferences."
Form Us With Love specialises in designs that respond to changing lifestyles. Previous projects include a vision of the future sofa and an experimental pop-up workspace.
Löfgren and Pettersson believe a system-led approach to design is the best way to create products with a long lifespan, so they are more adaptable and easier to repair.
"Our aim is to provide a system for the unimaginable," said Pettersson. "We want to empower interior designers and creative specifiers to really unleash their creativity and explore the endless possibilities of this storage solution."
"Whether it's organising an office, a home or a public space, this system offers the flexibility and adaptability needed to meet the demands of modern life," he continued.
This approach aligns with the history of String, a brand built around the iconic modular shelving system developed by Nils and Kajsa Strinning in 1949.
”Launching Center Center opens a new and exciting chapter for String Furniture," said Bo Hellberg, chief marketing officer String Furniture.
"It's a system we believe sets a real benchmark, with a very modern approach to modularity combined with a bold attitude in design. Our ambition is that this will become a modern classic."
The collection comes in eight "confident colours", including vibrant shades of blue, green, yellow and blue, as well as the plain white that Form Us With Love originally opted for.
The powder-coated steel units are manufactured using precise welding and bending processes. Legs and castors allow them to be raised off the floor if preferred.
Center Center is on show as part of the Framing exhibition at 3 Days of Design, which takes place at venues across Copenhagen from 12 to 14 June.
