Dezeen Showroom: Danish designer Cecilie Manz has created a range of linen and wool rugs for Kasthall, designed to be the opposite of "attention-seeking".
Instead, the Landskab collection was designed to highlight the different tactile and textural qualities of the natural yarns via two flatwoven and two hand-tufted rugs.
"From the very beginning, I knew I wanted to include linen in the composition," Manz said. "I think it is one of the most beautiful raw materials, modest yet elegantly refined. Even in smaller amounts, it provides a beautiful brightness and reflection on the textile's surface."
The hand-tufted Spire and Ålegræs have a more tactile, three-dimensional finish. The flatwoven Korn is coarser and more robust while Gryn is "very thin, dense, dry, and hard like crispbread", according to Manz.
Each rug was born from a combination of Kasthall's 135 years of experience in textile craft and the simplicity and sensuality of Manz's distinctive design language.
"When Kasthall invited Cecilie Manz to collaborate, she 'warned' that she wouldn't design loud, attention-seeking rugs but rather whispering and expressive ones in their simplicity," the company said.
"The collection is inspired by a desire to create something valuable and quiet that maintains the highest standards of quality and expression."
