Dezeen Showroom: British lighting brand Tornado has released a minimalistic wall light that casts a gentle glow and doubles as an emergency light source.

The Wood Slat Wall Panel light is composed of a series of narrow wood veneer slats fixed to a contrasting black backing board.

It can be specified with an integrated emergency pack, allowing it to function as a battery-powered backup light source for use in emergencies.

This functionality is enhanced by the Wood Slat Wall Panel light's narrow profile, which means it can be fitted unobtrusively in staircases.

The designers envisage the lamp to be used in Japanese, Scandinavian and other minimalist interiors, or to blend in with slatted acoustic wall panels.

The wall sconce is finished with a frosted diffuser on its bottom edge that softens the LED light source while hiding the inside of the fitting.

It is available in three different wood veneers and comes in various sizes.
