Dezeen has announced the 81 projects longlisted for this year's Dezeen Awards in the sustainability categories, including projects by SOM, Tarkett, Bolon, Mater and Smartvoll.

The 81 longlisted projects, which are in the running for awards in six different sustainability project categories, are by studios located across 20 different countries including Rwanda, Australia, Brazil, Germany, India and Austria.

The top three represented studio countries are the UK with 16 longlisted entries followed by the US and Germany tied with eight each.

Amongst the sustainability longlist are a twisting tower using self-shaping wood in Germany, a bright red timber mixed-use building in Berlin and a furniture collection made from waste products designed by Patricia Urquiola for Mater.

Dezeen Awards 2024, in partnership with Bentley, revealed all longlisted projects this week. The architecture, interiors and design longlists were announced earlier this week.

"Bentley is excited to partner with a world-class awards programme that celebrates such high-quality architecture and design but which also champions innovation, helping to push the industry towards a better and more sustainable world," said Chris Cooke, head of design collaborations at Bentley.

"This year's material innovation category stood out for this reason. Longlisted projects showcase cutting-edge technologies such as bio-based materials and the use of AI to optimise material usage, and offer a glimpse into how great design can help solve some of the big problems facing us all."

Longlisted projects have been selected from over 4,130 entries from 82 countries for the seventh edition of our awards programmes, which continues to champion design excellence and showcase innovation from architects and designers around the globe.

The next stage of Dezeen Awards 2024 will see all longlisted projects assessed by our international jury of leading professionals including Mina Hasman, Pooran Desai, Hélène Chartier, Henrik Taudorf Lorensen and Mae-ling Lokko.

Our 90 judges will determine the projects that feature on the shortlists, which will be announced in October. A further round of judging by our master jury will determine each winner, the overall project of the year winners, and the Bentley Lighthouse Award winner.
