Eight acoustic items that help to quieten down lively interiors

Acoustic items are often required in workplaces as well as residential, education, healthcare and hospitality environments – anywhere in which noise levels can easily become out of control, or where quiet is a priority.
They are made from fibrous materials that absorb sound, such as felt, which is sometimes made using recycled plastic.
Included in the following selection is a system of ceiling panels that can be placed magnetically inside existing grid ceilings by Askia Furniture, floor and pendant lights with felt shades by Abstracta and decorative wall panels by Arturel.

Office furniture brand Narbutas has released a single-person acoustic pod characterised by its clean lines and minimalistic form.
Sonus acoustic pods provide a space for focused work or private meetings in open-plan workplaces and can be fitted with discrete castors to easily adapt to changing office layouts.
Wave acoustic panels by Nital Patel for Arturel
Danish brand Arturel worked with designer Nital Patel on a series of wall-mounted acoustic panels that double as art pieces.
Wave acoustic panels are decorated with curving lines that Patel created in reference to Danish coastlines – this is also reflected in their being made from 100 per cent recycled plastic, 75 per cent of which comes from the sea.
Acoustic Ceiling Panels by Askia Furniture
Romanian brand Askia Furniture has created a system of square acoustic panels that can be mounted into conventional dropped ceiling grids,
Acoustic Ceiling Panels can also be attached to separate frames in place of existing grids and come in a selection of colours and patterns to suit a spectrum of interior schemes.

Vika acoustic lighting by Khodi Feiz for Abstracta
Crimped, sculptural shades made from PET felt conceal lighting elements in the Vika acoustic lighting series made by Swedish brand Abstracta in collaboration with industrial designer Khodi Feiz.
The lights come in standing and pendant variations and in a range of colours, all of which provide sound-dampening benefits in residential, hospitality and office interiors.
Tuned collection by Carnegie Acoustic Solutions
Design brand Carnegie Acoustic Solutions has released a collection of acoustic products that come in an array of shapes, colours and sizes.
The Tuned collection is available in block colours and natural-looking textures to suit a wide variety of interior design schemes.
Emboss acoustic wall panels by Zintra Acoustic
Australian brand Zintra Acoustic has designed a series of floor-to-ceiling wall-mounted panels that have sound-absorbing functionalities.
Emboss acoustic wall panels also provide textural interest in the rooms where they are installed and come in a spectrum of relief patterns and colourways.
Luxury aircraft cabins informed the aesthetic and size of this acoustic pod by furniture brand Kabin.
The Kabin 1 pod has a compact form with a glass door, steel frame, moveable work surface and in-built screen.
Framework Ceiling Frames by Acoufelt
Design brand Acoufelt has released a ceiling-mounted grid system covered in acoustic material that unobtrusively dampens sound in busy interiors.
Framework Ceiling Frames come in two formats – capped or open – which come in a selection of colours.
