Dezeen editor Tom Ravenscroft at IBP Awards

Dezeen editor named architecture writer of the year for pieces "handled with bravery and provocation"

Dezeen editor Tom Ravenscroft has been named Architectural Journalist of the Year at the prestigious International Building Press Awards 2024.

The award, which was given to Ravenscroft at a ceremony at the Building Centre in central London last week, marks Dezeen's fifth award win this year.

It follows Dezeen taking home two Professional Publishers Awards (PPA), one British Society of Magazine Editors award (BSME) and one Conference and Event award.

Articles "very relevant issues for the industry"

The pieces for which the Dezeen editor won the Architectural Journalist of the Year award focused on the male domination of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, Saudi Arabian mega project Neom and Airbnb founder Brian Chesky's views on artificial intelligence.

The jury, which comprised 27 industry experts, said Ravenscroft's pieces highlighted important issues and exemplified "good journalism".

"This journalist impressed the judges with the important subjects they raised and which were handled with bravery and provocation," said the judges.

"These are very relevant issues for the industry, and, crucially, these articles enable people to keep talking about them. This is what good journalism should do."

This year, Dezeen has been shortlisted for seven awards at the International Building Press awards, as well as four British Society of Magazine Editors (BSME) Talent Awards, two Professional Publishers Association (PPA) awards, two Association of Online Publishers (AOP) awards and two Conference and Event Awards.

Our latest win follows a successful 2023 when Dezeen's co-CEOs Benedict Hobson and Wai Shin Li were named leaders of the year for media and the digital industries at The Drum Awards 2023, Dezeen's editorial team was named Team of the Year at the PPA's annual awards and Ravenscroft was named Editor of the Year at the Association of Online Publishers' annual awards.
