Niall McLaughlin
London-based architect Niall McLaughlin is the founder of Niall McLaughlin Architects.
McLaughlin was born in Geneva and educated in Dublin, receiving his architectural qualifications from University College Dublin in 1984. Six years later, McLaughlin founded his own architecture studio Niall McLaughlin Architects in London.
Significant projects include the Pier Cafe in Deal, Goleen House, Olympic Athletes' Housing, Bishop Edward King Chapel and Peabody Housing. The studio, now made up of around 30 architects and based in Camden, are currently working on museum designs for Durham’s Auckland Castle and London’s Natural History Museum.
McLaughlin won Young British Architect of the Year in 1998. In 2001, he was named as one of the BBC's Rising Stars and was made an Honorary Royal Designer for Industry in 2015. He represented Ireland at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2016.
McLaughlin is Professor of architectural practice at The Bartlett school of architecture. From 2012 to 2013, he was a visiting professor at the University of California Los Angeles, and was appointed Lord Norman Foster Visiting Professor of Architecture at Yale University in 2014.
Niall McLaughlin Architects was named one of the 500 most newsworthy forces in the design world in the 2017 Dezeen Hot List.
