Oxo Tower Wharf to become new London Design Festival destination
Dezeen promotion: designjunction, one of the key exhibitions for the London Design Festival, is moving to three new venues on the South Bank.
Oxo Tower Wharf, a former power-station site beside the River Thames, will be the new home of designjunction's annual London showcase.
Working with social enterprise Coin Street Community Builders, the brand plans to create an exhibition across three different spaces.
The wharf itself will house a series of exhibitions and experiences. Meanwhile, neighbouring Doon Street will host a wide selection of design brands and pop-up shops, and Riverside Walkway will exhibit a series of outdoor installations.
The project will involve building a new multi-storey structure described as "the largest and most ambitious build designjunction has ever undertaken".
It will become the latest in a series of new buildings and spaces created in the area since the establishment of Coin Street Community Builders (CSCB) in 1984. The organisation's main aim is to transform the formerly derelict spaces into an attractive destination for living and working.
"By working with CSCB, we're putting our brands in the centre of a thriving mixed-use neighbourhood, whilst providing visitors with a unique show experience," said designjunction managing director Will Sorrell. "We look forward to contributing to this exciting area."
The new venue is expected to draw as many visitors as previous editions, which took place in King's Cross, Southampton Row and New Oxford Street.
Sorrell said: "designjunction has always sought to identify architecturally stunning backdrops to present the best global design."
Dezeen is media partner for the eighth edition of designjunction, which takes place from 20 to 23 September 2018 to coincide with London Design Festival.
Exhibitors announced so far include brands such as Erik Joergensen, Northern and New Tendency, and designers including Emma Cerasulo and Alex Orso.
