Located in London on a site dating back to the 12th century, Maggie’s Centre Barts was designed for Maggie’s, an organisation that provides support to cancer patients and their families.
The three-story building was envisioned as a 'vessel within a vessel within a vessel'. The structure is a branching concrete frame, the inner layer is perforated bamboo and the outer layer is matte white glass with coloured glass fragments, recalling 'neume notation' of Medieval music. The interior character of the building is shaped by coloured light pouring in, changing by the time of day and season.
