The Rwanda Cricket Stadium by Light Earth Designs is formed of three linked parabolic vaults.
The structure closely mimics the path of a bouncing ball whilst also evoking the hilly topography of Rwanda. The project, located in Kigali, has helped to develop the Rwandan economy by using local labour-intensive construction materials and techniques. The building was inspired by the ancient Mediterranean technique of thin-tile vaulting, using compressed soil-cement tiles made from site-excavated earth.
