Dezeen promotion: emergency housing made by drones and an exhibition of Vitra furniture are among the among the installations and exhibitions set to feature at designjunction during this year's London Design Festival.
This year for the first time, the annual designjunction showcase takes place on London's South Bank, in three venues: Oxo Tower Wharf, Doon Street and Riverside Walkway.
Riverside Walkway will host a series of outdoor installations. Among them will be the housing project, by French architect Stephanie Chaltiel, which comprises a building system that can be customised depending on its location.
Called Mud Shell, the project centres around a digital tool that programs drones to "spray" natural materials onto a prefabricated framework.
Chaltiel will work alongside students from London's Architectural Association to construct a prototype structure coated in mud, to show how the technique could be used transform temporary shelters into permanent housing.
Another installation will be created by a team from Saint-Etienne in France. Using steel and ribbon, two of the city's main industries, the structure will features steel arches of varying sizes dressed in ribbons by manufacturer Neyret.
At Oxo Tower Wharf, both the the Oxo Tower and the Bargehouse will host brand events, talks and exhibitions.
Following the success of Typecasting, a Milan design week exhibition that saw Vitra showcase hundreds of items from its archive, the Swiss furniture brand will present an installation titled The Original. About the Power of Good Design for London Design Festival.
According to designjunction, the installation will tell the stories of both classic and contemporary Vitra products, and reveal the company's product development processes.
Nearby, the Rado Star Prize UK will be exhibiting a selection of designs from its 10 finalists, ranging from furniture, lighting to ceramics, while industrial designer Tej Chauhan will present an installation displaying a range of technology and homeware products.
At the Doon Street venue, designjunction is teaming up with the RIBA to present a series of projects in support of the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, which was set up in memory of the teenager who aspired to become an architect.
A co-working space will be created by London-based architecture practice Squire and Partners, to create an inclusive space for people from all generations and background to meet and work together.
"The space will be an active feature within the show where designers will host interactive workshops and connect young designers with industry leaders," said designjunction.
Doon Street will also showcase an "Architect's Toolkit" created by stationary brand Mark+Ford, which includes a selection of tools used by an architect.
Dezeen is media partner for designjunction 2018, which takes place from 20 to 23 September to coincide with London Design Festival.
This year's event will also include a range of product launches, pop-up shops and talks. Exhibitors announced so far include brands such as Erik Joergensen, Northern and New Tendency, and designers including Emma Cerasulo and Alex Orso.
