BiznesUp! forum showcases Polish design talent at Łódź Design Festival
Dezeen promotion: Textiles made using traditional Eastern European weaving techniques, and coffee tables inspired by a film from French director JL Godard, featured in this year's BiznesUp! design made in Poland forum.
The annual event – which is a part of Łódź Design Festival – showcased work by 40 local and international Polish designers. It took place between 24 and 25 May 2018 at cultural institution Art Inkubator, near the centre of the town in central Poland.
The two-day event hosted a series of panel discussions, open lectures and exhibitions and showcased the work of designers including Piet Hein Eek, Audrone Drungilaite and Pete Kercher,
At the forum Łódź-based designer Danuta Wlodarska presented her series of 1960s-style coffee tables. Called Two or Three Things, the collection is influenced by a 1967 film by director JL Godard of the same name.
The pastel coloured products feature veneer table tops made to emulate the motion of swirling coffee – a reference to a scene in Godard's film – while the legs are slender and tapered.
Another product exhibited at the event was the Ehø acoustic panels, which are designed to be an aesthetically pleasing way of reducing noise levels in homes, offices or restaurants.
"Its structure ensures the psychological comfort of the user and promotes concentration. The wooden material warms and emphasises the character of the room," said the festival.
Weaving studio Tartaruga showcased its Kilims collection of handmade rugs and wall hangings, which are made from traditional tools and techniques.
"The turtle is slow but long-lived and unique. Exactly like Tartaruga's fabrics," said the festival.
Also at the forum Spinners presented a collection of wooden skateboards, while bicycle brand Goldie&Oldie also displayed its series of single-speed bikes, featuring steel frames and wooden handlebars.
