Winner: Transport Design of the Year 2018. The Tower of Power is a public charging station for electric vehicles, also conceived to be a teaching and research facility.

Providing electricity for four electric cars and four electric bikes at a time, the tower houses a wind turbine and a Photovoltaic system on the roof with the charging stations located beneath. The structure itself is a steel frame structure clad with aluminium panels.

The Tower of Power is connected directly to Vienna’s power grid, and so whenever surplus energy is produced, it is fed into the grid. Vice versa, the power grid provides energy to the charging station if needed.

Judges comments: "A forward-thinking, problem-solving and imaginative project designed from scratch that recognises the increasing prominence of electric vehicles."
