Shortlisted for apartment interior of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, Estudio Vilablanch and TDB Arquitectura have transformed a historic residential building in Barcelona into 26 exclusive apartments.
The 7,700-square-metre building was erected at the beginning of the 20th century and had fallen into a state of disrepair despite gaining listed status in 1979. It now features 26 apartments, ranging from spacious living quarters with frescoed ceilings, to more simple, white-walled flats with oakwood floors.
Long corridors, which connect the rooms, feature stained-glass windows or frescoed rotundas with floor-to-ceiling gilded panelling.
The contemporary furnishings, such as jewel-tone velvet armchairs and white sectional-sofas, were chosen by the designers stay true to the spirit of the building’s opulent original features. The kitchens are equipped with stainless-steel cabinetry.
