Shortlisted for apartment interior of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, Vladimir Radutny Architects has transformed a loft located on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue into a spacious home within an exposed concrete structure.
The 209-square-metre apartment, which was previously a poorly functioning domestic space, now features a vast living area on its main level and expansive ceilings throughout. Steps lead up to a lofted area, giving the flat its name.
The apartment is located inside a century-old building which was originally used for automotive display. Structural details such as the concrete ceiling and pillars were kept during the overhaul and an elevated wooden platform on the main level features in a portion of the living room, in the bedroom and in the kitchen.
