Shortlisted for house interior of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, the Ahm House is a renovated modernist house by London-based Coppin Dockray.

Originally built by Danish architect Jørn Utzon in 1961, the building features Aylesbury buff brick framed by an exposed structure of board-marked concrete, large walls of irregularly spaced timber mullions and glazing as well as Swedish Höganäs tiles for flooring, which were used on the roofs of the iconic Sydney Opera House.

Hertfordshire-based Coppin Dockray’s renovation of the interiors sees the house transformed, with a selection of classic and contemporary design, lighting, decorative objects. Bespoke furnishings chosen by the design team include a storage unit made from Oregon pine, a green marble table, a coffee table made from walnut a black linoleum as well as a commissioned series of rugs.

Some of the original joinery was in need of repair and reinstated based on Utzon’s original drawings. Materials were chosen to reflect the building’s historical context and Danish roots but to also make it functional for a growing family, the new owners of the house.
