Shortlisted for rural house of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, Smith Residence is a holiday home by MacKay-Lyons Sweetapple Architects.
Together with neighbouring buildings, the pavilions work to form a village on the two-acre site. The village is created by the careful aggregation of simple gable-roofed structures, producing an effect that is greater than the sum of its parts. While these traditional forms echo local vernacular, they are modernised through their cladding, expansive fenestration and minimalist detailing.
