Shortlisted for restaurant and bar interior of the year at Dezeen Awards 2019, Radhaus is part of the transformation of a former military base into a vibrant arts destination by envelope A+D.
Radhaus is a beer hall and Bavarian restaurant located in the Bay Area's historic Fort Mason Centre for Arts and Culture, which formerly housed a military base. It now demonstrates the revitalisation that is occurring in the neighbourhood. Drawer knobs, a screwdriver and a pipe are among the object that Studio A+D has used as beer taps in this industrial-style restaurant in San Francisco.
The design returns the former army and marine machine shop to its original large, open bay structure, celebrating and protecting the structure’s historic features, while integrating a contemporary use.
Radhaus was envisioned as a contemporary gathering place blending the convivial, communal essence of a German beer hall with modern interpretations of traditional Bavarian cuisine.
