Dezeen Awards 2019 design shortlist revealed
The Dezeen Awards 2019 design shortlist has been revealed. It includes a self-cleaning water bottle, a pendant light made with used coffee grounds, and the world's first silent wireless breast pump.
Plant-based shoes made from pineapples, a bakery powered by people's workouts, and a pop-up bistro that created zero food waste are also among the 52 products and projects on the Dezeen Awards 2019 design shortlist.
The ten categories span furniture, lighting, homeware, product and wearable design. Categories for sustainable design, installation design and graphic design were introduced for the first time this year.
Designers and studios that made the shortlist include Joe Doucet, Jaime Hayon, Studio Drift and Michael Anastassiades. With three pieces of furniture on the shortlist, Barber & Osgerby was recognised the most times.

Other highlights from the shortlist include a high-security electric bicycle, lights made from hand-carved volcanic rock, an installation of 17,000 artworks that represent deported immigrants, colourful contact lens packaging, and fully recyclable running trainers.
Philippe Starck, Li Edelkoort, Virgil Abloh, Marc Newson, Cecilie Manz, Kenya Hara, Imogen Heap and Tom Dixon were among the judges that selected this year's design shortlist, which was chosen from a longlist of 261 projects.
Projects were assessed using the three Dezeen Awards criteria – how beautiful, innovative, and beneficial to people and planet they are.
The winner of each project category will be announced online in October. All ten winners will then go on to compete for the design project of the year award, which will be revealed at the awards party in London on 30 October 2019.
The architecture and interiors shortlists have already been announced, with the studios shortlist set to be published tomorrow.
