Austin Maynard Architects has built a vertically-stacked family home on a narrow block in Brunswick.
Union House is hiding in plain sight, spilling over its original Dutch gable facade.
The studio explained that the residence is not a quiet and unassuming new build, but an intervention that directly layers one epoch on top of another. Union is an example of people literally living on top of each other, and making that the joy, rather than a problem.
Using height, voids and openings, the volume of the rooms are blurred, fluid and flexible.
This project has been longlisted in the urban house project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
