A three-storey 1930s house in Guangzhou's Liwan District has been given a modern renovation for an octogenarian couple.

Designer Thomas Tse and his team were commissioned by a newly-married couple in their 80s who bought the old house with the intention of transforming it into their wedding home.

The entire building was raised by 800mm due to flooding risk in the area, and an inner courtyard was added to provide indoor ventilation and natural light.

A green facade aims to improve the environment for the residents and to help regulate the urban microclimate, as well as bringing more youthful energy to the property and the old city.

This project has been longlisted in the house interior project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
