Studio Razavi has designed an apartment for a mathematician living in the old quarters of Lyon in France.
The brief was to renovate the third floor of a sixteenth-century building into a one bedroom apartment.
Living mostly alone, the client wished to not clutter the space, celebrate the impressive monolithic fireplaces and 50cm-deep original ceiling oak beams sitting fourteen feet high.
One bedroom, one bathroom, in addition to living, dining and kitchen spaces made up the programme. The studio's objective was to bridge five-hundred-years of design without losing the soul of the place.
This project has been longlisted in the apartment interior category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
