Pitsou Kedem has updated an apartment in Jaffa, which features aged stone walls punctuated by grand arched openings.
The studio has designed a collection of traditional spaces built around a central patio that were merged by dynamic cladding, creating a unique combination of old and new.
The basis of the concept involved searching for a stitch between original Ottoman architecture and the contemporary language of the studio.
From the patio that forms the centre of the apartment and takes advantage of the Mediterranean climate, the various spaces are split. The main design gesture of a white metal cladding is "strolling" along the vaults, containing infrastructure behind it.
The material palette is minimal and respectful to the unique environment.
This project has been longlisted in the apartment interior category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
