Studio Duncalf has designed a dining and entertaining space featuring a combination of theatre, warmth and intimacy in Denmark.

The studio's approach to the large space was to create a series of different zones over varying levels, through which diners can progress through each with a different atmosphere.

Most of the dining takes place in a central dome. Good soundproofing creates a paradoxical element to the 18-metre diameter dome, making it feel more intimate than the size would suggest. A selection of moving images fitting the dining theme are projected onto the dome.

After four months of opening, Alchemist was named Best Restaurant in Denmark in the White Guide. Three months after that, only seven months of opening, Alchemist was awarded two Michelin Stars.

This project has been longlisted in the restaurant interior category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
