Tsukimi

Studio Tack has used white oak panelling, antiqued glass mirrors and alabaster lights to create a small Japanese restaurant in New York City.

The interior brings an atmosphere that is elegant, relaxed and comforting.

Guests are seated on two brass counter tables facing each other with seven seats each. In between is a path leading from the kitchen, where the interaction of the chef and kitchen staff is in view.

The classic mosaic floor, made circa 1920, and the exterior facade are almost untouched, representing the timeless beauty of the cuisine.

The lighting is inspired by the way that the Japanese view the moon during Tsukimi, which is done indirectly by looking at its reflection in water or its diffusion of light across the landscape.

This project has been longlisted in the restaurant interior category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
