Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects has designed a sporting and civic facility for a shire of 1,200 people in rural Western Australia.
The project comprises two large volumes – the sports hall and the function centre – joined together by a verandah that acts as foyer, circulation space, informal gathering space and grandstand to the playing fields.
The facility is the first all-timber civic structure built in Western Australia since 1942. The cladding, flooring and decking are made from locally-grown Eucalyptus muelleriana.
This project has been longlisted in the civic building project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
