Architecture studio Atelier Z+ has designed a wetland research and education centre in Shanghai.
Situated within a nature reserve, the architectural volume is scattered, floating on the water and hidden among the reeds. The studio aimed to minimise the impact on wetland.
Five buildings of different volumes have been cross-connected by a trestle bridge. The firm turned the double-pitched roof over, making a Y-shape cantilever structure.
Through the conversion of prototypes and the control of scale, the atmosphere of indoor and outdoor spaces are in response to the environment specificity such as sky, wetland, reeds and flying birds.
This project has been longlisted in the cultural building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
