Architecture studio Marlene Uldschmidt has renovated an old building in Portugal into a gallery.
The gallery is situated in the fishing village of Ferragudo in Portugal. The historic center of Ferragudo is an extremely sensitive area to work in.
The studio renovated one of the untouched buildings in Rua Vasco da Gama one of the main streets in the village, parallel to the quayside.
The client's brief was the preservation of this historic building. On the entire ground floor – which benefits from two entrances, one turned to the quayside – is a gallery, which is open to the public, and the upper floor was transformed into an apartment.
This project has been longlisted in the rebirth project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
