HilberinkBosch Architects has created an asymmetric barn in the Meierij region of the Netherlands using wood felled from a nearby site.

The studio has used century-old oak trees to create the workshop to sit alongside its studio.

With nine additional trees, the practice decided to reinstate an ancient tradition. By replacing a collage of obsolete shelters and sheds, the firm built a new barn with locally-harvested materials employing traditional techniques.

A mobile sawmill has cut the fresh tree trunks to the last chip into parts for the new building.

This project has been longlisted in the small building category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
