Education City Tram Stops

Education City Tram Stops is a battery-operated public transit system in Doha, with open-air stops connecting universities, school facilities and student halls.

In a team venture with Siemens and BIC Contracting (HLG), the 11.5km route eliminates the need for automobile and bus journeys, enabling park-and-ride connections between the Qatar Foundation's education facilities.

Sensitive to the region’s character, including high temperatures, unshaded journeys between buildings and reliance on personal car use, the system integrates into the fabric of Education City and encourages users to make public transportation part of their daily lives.

The open-air design of the tram stops offers entry and exit points from all sides creating intuitive wayfinding for passengers, while the conditioned glass waiting rooms and lighting design are inviting and transparent for safety. The tram system connects to the growing Doha subway, allowing passengers to continue their journey from the subway to the tram and vice-versa.

This project has been longlisted in the infrastructure project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
