Flying Table
David Foessel

JCPCDR Architecture has designed an oak table suspended from the ceiling to save on space, using a mechanism that resembles seat belts.

The idea for Flying Table came from a Parisian office refurbishment project. The studio complement the spaces it designs with custom furniture, which led them to explore a more flexible and efficient use of valuable floor space.

Flying Table allows a meeting room or desk to quickly transform into a photo studio, a yoga class, a lounge or living room.

Its mechanism is made possible by several techniques, inspired by everyday objects: detachable seat belt straps, electric curtain motors, integrated lighting and folding legs.

These details, and remote control transmitters, are hidden in a rustic-looking tray with sleek, contemporary lines.

As a desk, dining table, meeting table or coffee table, this piece of furniture adapts itself to several uses or spaces.

This project has been longlisted in the workplace design project category of Dezeen Awards 2020.
