Shortlisted for rebirth project of the year at Dezeen Awards 2020, Atelier Tao+C has designed a capsule hotel and bookstore surrounded by mountains in Zhejiang Province, China.
The hotel has been built inside an old rammed-earth structure, with the addition of a glazed gable-end extension.
The full-height atrium is covered in translucent corrugated plastic panels that project from the eastern gable end of the original structure.
The architect has lined the walls of the hotel with bamboo bookshelves that are stacked inside a triple-height space, doubling as a library and a bookshop.
