Cecil Balmond
Cecil Balmond OBE is an internationally renowned artist, architect and engineer who works at the intersection of art and science. He is considered one of the most influential creators of his generation.
Balmond informs his designs with rigorous research, pushing the boundaries of geometry, form and structure.
Prior to founding Balmond Studio in 2011, Cecil was Deputy Chairman of Arup, and Chairman of the European Building Division. He ran the widely renowned design group AGU, and through his work here and collaborations with other critically acclaimed architects, he brought Balmond Studio global recognition.
Balmond has also taught at some of the world’s most significant architecture and design institutions. These include the University of Pennsylvania, where he was the Paul Phillipe Cret Chair at Penn Design, and where he founded the NSO and remains a Professor of Architecture. He has also been Visiting Saarinen Professor at Yale, Professor at LSE Urban Cities Programme, and Visiting Kenzo Tange critic at Harvard.
