Malik Architecture has designed a house in India using sandstone as the primary building material.
Sadly, over the last few decades, the potential of sandstone as a robust and sustainable structural element has not been explored. In India, the economy of the hand-made is still comparable with mechanised methods. The house, which is located in Jaipur, presented the studio with an opportunity to explore and evolve a method of building that has been prevalent in traditional buildings for centuries. We laid out a simple brief: no material other than stone should be used for construction. This made us dive deeply into the art of "making" with stone.

This project has been longlisted in the urban house category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
