A catalyst for the transformation of a depressed neighbourhood on the outskirts of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Church and Community Centre is a place of urban centrality, of reference and integration for the neighbours.
The community finances the building and the uneven pace of remittances is what determines the design and its subsequent execution over 16 years: four modules plus their environment, to be used in phases. The Community Centre was urgently needed so the design was conceived in such a way that two modules would be completed and they have been in use for 13 years now.
This project has been longlisted in the cultural building category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
