This compact home floats on the north end of Seattle’s Lake Union. Continuing the city’s long tradition of floating homes and houseboats, the 60 SM structure sits atop an old-growth log float foundation from the early 1900s.
A key concern was capturing the poetic quality of light glimmering off the water, an aspect heightened by overhead aluminium-lined sky vessels which softly reflect the colours of the changing sky. Amplifying contrasts between the dark cedar exterior and the soft, light interior of pine and oak means the home embodies a feeling of lightness—a sensibility perfectly suited for a floating home.
This project has been longlisted in the small building category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
