Sands End Arts and Community Centre is a new community centre in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham.
Designed by Mæ, the project provides crucial community infrastructure, including a café, nursery and an artist studio while restoring a Grade II-listed caretaker’s lodge that we retained on the site. The centre consists of flexible and interconnected single storey pavilions clustered around the lodge. The pavilions feature tall clerestory windows, creating a varied roofline drawing in visitors. The centre’s load bearing structure is made from large scale cross laminated timber (CLT) panels, clad in upcycled nougat-coloured brick.
This project has been longlisted in the sustainable building category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
