To darkness, light brings life. The Flint Collective NYC’s light art series, OPEN, was a creative response to counter pandemic fallout that saw numerous local businesses close, cultural venues disappear and formerly vibrant community life dim.
Site-specific, light art installations transformed eight, vacant storefronts in Manhattan’s East Village into an illuminated, neighborhood, night walk.
Produced by a non-profit collective of local designers for the community they love, OPEN energized residents, struggling local businesses, and neighborhood visitors with discovery and hope. Celebrating the spirit of NYC, the work demonstrated social impact made possible when people come together around light.
This project has been longlisted in the architectural lighting design category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
