Forests give up large chunks of wood along highways and in neighbourhoods that are not commercially viable on an industrial scale so often end up as firewood or landfill.
Meanwhile, the price of furniture grade wood has gone up considerably as climate change and demand has impacted supply. The Chunk Line project is a search for designs that take advantage of this sustainable supply for useful furniture, salvaged and sold locally that displaces the need for mass market offerings with unsustainably large carbon footprints.
This project has been shortlisted in the sustainable design category of Dezeen Awards 2021.
