Based at our new Locksbrook campus, the BA (Hons) Architecture program at Bath Spa University explores how architectural design is at the heart of creative, adaptable and climate positive use of space.

It focuses on the relationship between conservation, the planning system, the use and reuse of buildings and structures, and the transformation of urban spaces in response to crucial issues such as climate change, biodiversity, health and life safety, and social equity.

Locksbrook is a Grade-II listed building designed by Nicholas Grimshaw in 1976. It has now been transformed for us into an amazingly inspirational space, redesigned to meet 21st century environmental standards with technical workshops surrounded by open, flexible studio spaces, as well as large, open social areas (RIBA South West Award 2021 and RIBA National Award 2021).

Designing and creating, reinventing and repurposing our built environment is a constantly evolving collaborative process across design practices that involves practical and intellectual complexity, creativity and innovation.

On our course you learn about buildings and materials in relation to their sites, and within their historic and future contexts. You also learn to use, and engage with, new and emerging technologies and develop skills in drawing, model-making, design processes, project management, communication and collaboration.
