Kawara Armchair by Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec for Koyori
Dezeen Showroom: Paris-based designers Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec have created a wooden armchair that combines a classic and simple aesthetic for Japanese design brand Koyori.
The Kawara Armchair has a simple yet classic form that can be used in dining or meeting room settings.
''We wanted to design a large box-like dining chair, which gives the comfort of sitting in a very softshell," said Ronan Bouroullec.
"We imagine this charming chair around a dining or meeting table, and it is available in different colours, upholstered in leather or textile."
Designers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec used plywood to create a three-dimensional, curved back and armrest. The material was chosen to provide an interesting aesthetic but also strength and structural stability.
Kawara Armchair is available in four different finishes and can be purchased with a wooden or upholstered seat in either leather or textiles.
"For the Kawara Armchair of course I had in mind the Yanagi Butterfly stool which I found so beautiful," said Bouroullec. "It was in one of the most important books called 'Yanagi Sori' that I have had since I was very young, 25 years ago that is."
"The idea was to convey the high-quality details of Japanese craftsmanship to European culture. The three chairs are, each in a different way, showing what quality is."
