Graal Architecture has enhanced the use of a university rectory space northwest of Paris.

Located at the heart of François Mitterrand Park in Cergy prefecture, the university refectory has been restructured and extended to enhance its setting and maximise communal space for students.

Building on the refectory's intrinsic qualities including a wealth of user features (such paths, staircases and openings), the interventions on the existing structure reinforce the relationship between the interior and the exterior to enhance the dining space.

The project is spread over the two original floors, accessible on the same level, while a kiosk in a mixed wood and steel structure has been placed on the roof of the original refectory, creating a dialogue with the dimensions of the urban landscape and natural park setting.

This project has been longlisted in the civic building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
