Atelier d'More has created a boutique hotel in a village on the outskirts of Beijing to provide inward reflection on a courtyard garden.
The project is a minimalist white two-storey building that centres on a rectangular courtyard to create an inward view in the absence of surrounding scenery. Several further small semi-enclosed courtyards create a series of interactions between the tearoom, guest rooms, walls and main courtyard within the multi-level space.
The white facade makes the building abstract and sculptural. The rendering of white material creates a sense of blurred boundary between the wall and the upper reaches of the building, encouraging the flow of space and natural light to blend into one.
This project has been longlisted in the hospitality building category of Dezeen Awards 2022.
